Reminder of Bidding Threshold Change Under Illinois School Code

As a reminder to school districts, recent amendments to the Illinois School Code increased the competitive bidding threshold from $25,000 to $35,000, effective January 1, 2024. As a result of the change, most school districts do not need to competitively bid purchases that are $35,000 or less. However, before making a purchase subject to the new threshold, school districts should confirm that purchasing policies adopted by their board of education are consistent with the change to the Illinois School Code. If purchasing policies adopted by the board include a lower threshold, purchases will need to comply with the lower threshold or new policies will need to be adopted.
