Amy R. Cortez

Amy R. Cortez practices labor and employment law. She counsels employers in various aspects, including internal misconduct investigations, disciplinary action, labor relations, and federal and state employment discrimination matters under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Illinois Human Rights Act, Title VII, and other federal and state anti-discrimination laws.

Amy is a dedicated member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association, demonstrating her commitment to her legal profession and the pursuit of justice.

During law school at the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Amy participated in both the Labor and Employment Certificate Program and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team. She has also attended the American Arbitration Association Summit and interned with various in-house legal departments. Prior to joining Robbins Schwartz, Amy worked at a general practice defense firm, focusing on insurance defense and general business law.

Amy’s fascination with understanding the intricate mechanisms that govern our society has always been a driving force in her life. She thrives on staying one step ahead in the legal realm, ensuring that she comprehends the intricate balance of what is permissible and what is not. 

What brings Amy the most satisfaction in her work is her engagement with a diverse range of people, each possessing unique perspectives and outlooks. Working in labor & employment law has given her the opportunity to delve into these different mindsets, fostering a deeper comprehension of how various perspectives can interact and shape the legal landscape.

Beyond her legal career, Amy finds solace and inspiration within the pages of books, showcasing her love for knowledge and exploration. Traveling is another of her passions, enabling her to connect with the broader world and explore its multifaceted cultures and landscapes. Alongside her husband, she enjoys discovering new and exciting restaurants.
