Robert E. Riley Presented at 2010-11 IAASE Conference – Leadership & Learning for the 21st Century

Partner Robert E. Riley presented at the 2010-11 IAASE Fall Conference: Leadership & Learning in the 21st Century on September 24, 2010. Mr. Riley spoke on "Teacher and Principal Evaluations Under Public Act 96-0861: Practical Advice to Meet Statutory and Collective Bargaining Obligations."

This session focused on the new statutory requirements for developing and implementing Teacher Evaluation Plans and for evaluating principals. Significant changes must be made by districts in the next few years to teacher evaluation processes. These changes include revamping teacher rating systems, using student growth as a significant factor in teacher performance assessments, and changing how poorly performing teachers are to be identified and remediated. Principals' evaluation requirements also have been overhauled and all evaluators of certificated personnel must new undertake training meet additional qualifications. The session covered not only these substantive changes but also the processes districts must follow for making these changes and provided practical advice on how to comply with any collective bargaining obligations.

The 2010-11 IAASE Conference: Leadership & Learning for the 21st Century took place September 23-24, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Select Hotel & Conference Center in Tinley Park, Illinois.
